S/R. GYG and Ghana Prisons Partner for a Green Park at Damongo Camp Prison.

GYG staff met with the Damongo Camp Prison leadership in the Savannah Region, advancing plans for a Green Park initiative.

The visit forms part of our organization dedication to teaming up with the Ghana Prison Service to help in the Agricultural Mechanization draft of the Director General of Prisons’ Think Prison 360 Degree initiative.

During our partnership working visit, the Executive Director of Ghana Youth Guide (GYG) and Coordinator for the Resilient Roots of Change Project, Prince Chentiwuni SA. Fatawu briefing with the officers in charge of Damongo Camp Prison highlights our organization’s commitment to the prison service in the savannah region.

The partnership will empower inmates through sustainable, Climate-Smart Agriculture, boosting skills and well-being. In a powerful move for rehabilitation and environmental stewardship, GYG will spearhead the creation of a GREEN PARK at the Savannah Region Camp Prison. This initiative by GYG is in collaboration with the Ghana Prison promises inmates a chance to connect with nature, cultivate skills and nurture hope.

The Acting OIC of Damongo Camp Prison, Chief Superintendent of Prison. Sieku Ametus welcomed the Executive Director and his team to the prison and commended GYG for choosing Damongo Camp Prison to benefit from the wide range of ideas in Agricultural Mechanization. He assures the team of the service in Damongo commitment to make sure the initiative the organization is bringing will be utilize with the necessary seriousness and to make sure the program yields positive result for the service.

He also called for other stakeholders to partner with them for more interventions which he believes will strengthen the inmates and prepare them for social re-integration. Speaking with GYG, the 2IC Issac Tetteh also commended GYG and stress the need for collaboration in provinding skills for the inmate which is their prioirty.

GYG as an organization has been position as a Climate-Hub in Northern Ghana championing climate justice to safeguard the environment. GYG have successfully implementing initiatives on Agriculture which has been strengthening by empowering the Ghanaian youth for sustainable Agriculture.

GYG is currently running our Resilient Roots of Change (R2C) project is a two-year initiative to enhance climate resilience among vulnerable groups in Ghana’s Northern Region, including women, youth, visible minorities like the Fulanis and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs.

GYG since 2023 has strengthened its role and legitimacy to lead youth-centred climate initiatives in cooperation with DIB by building on the successes of the SGY-CSA project. Our R2C intervention envisages a participatory approach to sustainable development to strengthen civil society at the local level and to empower vulnerable and marginalized groups to practice CSA and advocate for climate action.

Ghana Youth Guide (GYG) is a non-political, independent, not-forprofit organization run by young people in northern Ghana. Ghana Youth Guide LBG is Registered with the Ghana Registrar Department with a Registration number: CG037110524 under the companies Act, 2019 (Act 992). GYG was founded on 10th May, 2010. GYG is based in Tamale-Ghana, West Africa with 540 active members across the Northern Region. Our membership is open to all mindful human beings irrespective of tribe, gender, religion, and age.

GYG is one of the largest youth-run organizations in Ghana and beyond serving as a Multi – Sectoral community support group, and has been active across all the districts in the northern region.
