GYG COMPLETES BASELINE SURVEY IN 10 COMMUNITIES IN N/R FOR R2C PROJECT
Ghana Youth Guide, a non-profit organisation based in Northern Ghana has completed our Baseline Survey in Tolon and Savelugu. Districts.
The Baseline Survey is part of our activities in implementing the Resilient Roots of Change (R2C) Project under the theme Empowering Ghanaian Youth for Sustainable Agriculture. As part of the Baseline Survey, the project staff for the R2C project visited all the beneficiary 10 communities in Tolon and Savelugu Districts to engage farmers on climate smart agriculture.
The project team administered the questionnaires in Tolon district, visiting communities including Tolon, Gbulahigu, Gbanjong, Kamonnaayili, and Galinkpegu. Although preparations were made for the survey, including transportation and meal arrangements for staff, a heavy rainstorm disrupted the plans, forcing the team to return to the office without completing the scheduled activities.
In Savelugu district, contact persons were selected and tasked with identifying 50 household farmers in each community, following the same beneficiary breakdown as Tolon. The Baseline Survey seeks to examine the understanding of the beneficiary farmers on climate change, skills and practices in climate smart agriculture as well as measure their willingness to advocate for climate smart agriculture. In the Savelugu Municipal the beneficiary communities include, Libga, Nyoglo, Bihi-Naayili, Zaazi and Savelugu.
The GYG project staff have also constituted 10 Community Resilience Committees (CRCS) which include youth, women and farmer group leaders and has also met with chiefs of the beneficiary communities.
Meetings with traditional authorities helped facilitate smooth project implementation at the community level. These efforts were part of a broader project preparations, which included conducting a baseline survey in all 10 selected communities. Major stakeholders, including traditional authorities, warmly welcomed the project and pledged their full support, recognizing climate change as a pressing global issue that requires collective action to mitigate its adverse effects on local economic growth.
