Some Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) who are beneficiaries of the Ghana Youth Guide Climate Smart Agriculture intervention are appealing to NGOs to give more donor support to Ghana Youth Guide to expand its Strengthening Ghanaian Youth Through Climate Smart Agriculture and Civic Organizing project.
The PWDs made this appeal after a two days training on climate smart agriculture organized by Ghana Youth Guide with the technical support from the Danish International Human Settlement (DIB) and with funding from the Civil Society in Development (CISU) all based in Denmark.
Speaking about the importance of the training, Karima Mahama a pwd stated that, they have learnt a lot on climate smart agriculture since their engagement with Ghana Youth Guide.
Another beneficiary of the project, Alhassan Mohammed Doo Kayaa said (pwd) mentioned that, โfarming is very difficult to we the disables because, farming requires a lot of resources which we donโt have. So, if weย could get some financial support from Ghana Youth Guide partners, it will help us a lot. Its difficult to get seedlings and other farm equipmentโ.
On his part, Alhassan Kubura revealed that this is not their first engagement with Ghana Youth Guide but this training is exceptional and will play an important role in their lives.
According to her, she never taught this training could be so educative and beneficial and is hopeful to get more support from GYG and its partners. โBoth abled and we the disables have benefited from the GYG and we are hopeful to get more. Our challenge as a disable is that we find it difficult getting tractors and people to assist us in our farms. So, if we could get seed drillers, fertilizers, weedicides and tricycles, it will help us a lot to do the farmingโ. She added.
They made these calls in Tamale when GYG held a two days capacity building training on climate smart agriculture for small-holder farmers from the Tolon district and the Savelugu Municipality who are currently benefiting from the project.
